Commitment to Sustainability at Hacienda Na Xamena – Ibiza
Hacienda Na Xamena combines luxury hospitality with a progressive approach to more sustainable practices that respect the natural environment surrounding it. This commitment is reflected both in daily operations and in the experience offered to guests, integrating nature and local culture into every aspect of its philosophy.
Waste Management and Recycling
The hotel actively promotes waste separation and recycling across all operational areas, engaging its teams in a culture of reduction, reuse, and recycling. Organic waste—especially from the kitchen—is managed responsibly, contributing to a circular economy and reducing food waste. For events and celebrations, priority is given to the use of sustainable materials, eliminating single-use plastics and opting for biodegradable or reusable tableware and elements.
Zero-Kilometer Products and Sustainable Gastronomy
Hacienda Na Xamena’s gastronomic concept is firmly rooted in the zero-kilometer philosophy, prioritizing local, seasonal, and organic ingredients. A large portion of the products used come from the hotel’s own garden, which reduces the carbon footprint associated with transportation, supports the local economy, and guarantees freshness and quality. Menus evolve in harmony with the natural rhythm of the seasons, respecting the land’s cycles and reinterpreting Ibizan tradition through a contemporary and sustainable lens.
Efficient Water Management – Water km 0
Aware of the importance of water as an essential resource on the island, Hacienda Na Xamena plans to install its own wastewater treatment plant by 2026. This facility will allow the recovery and reuse of approximately 70% of the water, mainly for irrigating green areas and maintaining the natural surroundings. This practice significantly reduces potable water consumption and contributes to a more responsible and self-sufficient management of water resources.
The Estate: Origin and Heart of the Sustainable Project
The estate is the core of much of our environmental commitment. Organic, seasonal products are cultivated there, supplying a large part of the hotel’s gastronomic offering while following principles of traditional Ibizan agriculture and respecting the natural cycles of the land. Conceived as a living space, the estate highlights the connection between land, gastronomy, and sustainability, preserving the island’s agricultural heritage and promoting a lifestyle in harmony with the environment. Through the Vida Antigua project, guests can discover traditional Ibizan agriculture at an unhurried pace, taking part in experiences that show how the land was cultivated and harvested, and how food was processed in traditional oil and grain mills. This initiative connects history, tradition, and sustainability, offering an authentic and educational experience in the heart of nature.
Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency
The hotel has incorporated hybrid solar panels as part of its energy efficiency strategy. Thanks to this installation, approximately 50% of the energy required to heat the pools is covered, and around 15% of the hotel’s total electricity is generated. The system also provides energy for all the hotel’s hot water, ensuring guest comfort in a sustainable way. These actions reduce the use of conventional energy sources and significantly lower the hotel’s environmental footprint.
Sustainability Integrated into the Guest Experience
Beyond infrastructure, Hacienda Na Xamena encourages an authentic connection with nature and local culture, inviting guests to be part of a more conscious lifestyle. Sustainability is not presented as an isolated concept, but as a transversal value reflected in gastronomy, resource management, and the way the environment is inhabited and experienced.
