English and German event agencies experience Ibiza’s meeting and incentives sector for themselves

The Ibiza Convention Bureau has organised several fam trips for event agencies to see at first hand the island's facilities for organising corporate events.

From 21 to 23 April, a group of six UK agencies were shown Ibiza's potential for holding conventions, congresses, presentations and incentive trips. Also, from 29 April to 1 May, a group of ten event agencies from Germany toured the island.

During their stay, they had the opportunity to experience a selection of the attractions that can be included in incentives programmes, such as tours in 2CV cars and water sports such as surfing and stand-up paddle, among others. They also visited some unmissable spots on the island, such as a tour of Dalt Vila to discover Ibiza's cultural heritage, and a trip to the Las Dalias hippy market.

 

They also saw the island's excellent infrastructure, which includes new hotels with facilities for organising meetings and venues for holding group lunches and dinners.

While the group of German agents was on the island, the Ibiza Convention Bureau organised a meeting at the Convention Centre, in which some of its partners took part. The event gave the German agencies their first contact with suppliers to the sector on the island through speed networking meetings. Attendees also took part in a brief team-building dynamic involving a graffiti workshop, to break the ice and encourage interaction among participants.

Both groups travelled in the company of representatives of the Spanish Tourist Board (OET) from London and Frankfurt, respectively. These two markets are traditionally important to the island, because of their good flight connections. In the case of the United Kingdom, it is also noteworthy that there are six flights a week to Ibiza from London City airport during the low season.

The purpose of these types of activities is to improve business activities to strengthen Ibiza's image as a destination for organising professional events. So-called MICE tourism is one of the products that is helping to de-seasonalise tourism on the island.
