Ibiza Convention Bureau and its members join World Cleanup Day
Ibiza Convention Bureau joined World Cleanup Day 2018, an environmental initiative that was organised worldwide in more than 150 countries last 15 September. Ibiza Convention Bureau and Fomento del Turismo—an association that includes Ibiza Convention Bureau—proposed to join this cleanup day caring for the environment with its members, adding to the 1,500 volunteers who registered on the island.
40 people signed up for the cleanup efforts, which were held for the very first time in Ibiza, to pick up trash in their designated area. The target could not be reached due to rain, so the activity was postponed for 22 September, when a smaller group resumed the cleanup efforts. Large quantities of plastic containers, glass bottles and other waste were collected by the volunteers on their way from the foot of the town walls of Dalt Vila to the Figueretes beach.
It's in this way that Ibiza Convention Bureau promotes actions that help to protect the land and boost the island's sustainability.
The World Cleanup Day project can trace its beginnings to Estonia, where on 3 May 2008, more than 50,000 people came together to clean up waste. The idea was simple: to get rid of illegal landfill sites and to change society's attitude towards environmental protection, it was necessary to make the problem visible and get all citizens involved in solving it.
